The Harp and the Camera
In an essay of the same name (included in The Rediscovery of Meaning), one of his best known, Barfield compares the cultural metaphors of the Aeolian harp, so prized by the Romantics, with the camera, so beloved by the modern world, in order to explore the metaphoric internalization of the camera sequence and camera man in the development of the evolution of consciousness.
