Ambitious, unpublished novel by
Owen Barfield, written in the 1920s. Its failure to find a publisher was a major
factor in Barfield's decision to abandon his dreams of a literary career and
join his father's law firm.
Hunter and Kranidas provide a
brief summary of the novel in A Barfield Sampler (94).
The original 500+ page
manuscript (missing pages 78 to 114) can be found in the Wade Collection. No
complete copy is known to exist.
