The Bird and Baby

The Inklings

The group of writers who met from the 1930s to the 1950s in the rooms of C. S. Lewis at Oxford University and, later, at the Bird and Baby pub in the town of Oxford, to discuss literature and, in particular, their own writing projects: J. R.R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, Warnie Lewis, and, occasionally, Owen Barfield.

Humphrey Carpenter wrote a full-length study of the group: The Inklings: C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, and Their Friends (Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1979).
